  • Year 1 were ever so lucky this week and went on a special trip to Reading Museum. Our focus this half term is a painting called Children’s Games by Pieter Bruegel. It depicts a scene from 1600 with an enormous variety of games being played by children, most involving various toys. We have looked and talked about toys we play with now but have very limited access to toys from the past. Reading Museum have a toy section and toy workshops where we were able to use and explore a variety of toys we would never normally come across. The children loved exploring the museum, playing with artefacts and dressing up as children from Victorian times. The highlight of the trip was when they got to make their very own toys.1

The children in Reception are going to Norden Farm Theatre to watch The Elves and the Shoemaker.  They were set a project to design a pair of shoes, either by drawing, painting or making a model.  Lots of children took part and we had some amazing entries. These will all be sent off to Norden Farm, where all schools attending the show will go into a competition.  The winner will be invited to turn on the Christmas lights at Maidenhead Town Hall and will receive a goody bag. Project Based Learning 'Project Passports!'
At Western House Academy we use a project based approach to our learning where each half term each year group chooses a topic. This might be a focus on a period in history, a famous person, a geographical location or something similar. It is then the goal to link the children's learning to this topic wherever possible ..........read more

What is the Federation's Vision?

The Park Federation is here to serve the whole community and wants all children to enjoy and benefit from a first-class education. Our academies are safe, happy and creative places where excellent behaviour, hard work and ambitious academic standards are prized and nurtured. Every family is welcome, respected and encouraged to play an active part in their children's learning. All children have opportunities to grow in self-belief, express their individuality, and develop the confidence to take the next step in life and their next step in learning. We aim to be a springboard to success!
