2024-25

Welcome to Nursery!

Our dedicated Nursery Team are very excited to be a part of your child’s Early Years Journey:

Mr Overton - Director of Early Years
Mrs Chinnery - in charge of the Nursery (maternity leave)
Mrs Crabbe - Early Years Practitioner
Mrs Harjai - Early Years Practitioner
Miss Brench - Early Years Practitioner

At Western House Academy we strongly believe in establishing a secure and friendly home/school partnership, and we believe this begins in nursery.  A member of the nursery team is available to speak to you about your child every day at the door once all children have been released safely. You are also welcome to discuss your child’s needs by arranging a meeting.

Reading

Library

At Western House Academy we really do want children to become enthusiastic and independent readers, and we heartedly recognise the importance of reading from an early age and incorporating this into a child's daily routine.  Hence, at Western House Nursery, children will have the opportunity to choose a library book each week which they can share at home.

In our nursery we celebrate children from many different ethnic backgrounds. For many of these children, English is a second language.  By reading to your child and talking about the pictures, you are encouraging a fundamental part of language development in early childhood - so please read with/to your child.

Shared Reading

We will be sharing and reading a wide range of stories with your child throughout the course of their journey in Nursery: Here are my Hands; Ten in the Bed; Dear Zoo; The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Panda Bear, Panda Bear. What do you see? Mouse Paint, I am the Music Man. There was an old lady, Sharing a Shell, Up, Down and Around, Brown Bear, Brown Bear. What do you see? ; Guess How Much I love you?

We are looking forward to taking care of your children and have heaps of exciting and stimulating projects planned to develop and enhance the children’s understanding and knowledge.

Children will have many captivating opportunities, such as experiencing

‘Living Eggs’.   The children are extremely fortunate to see the lifecycle of a chicken -  from the start of it’s life in an egg to hatching from it’s shell, into a chick.  This programme is very beneficial for the children’s well-being, self-esteem and knowledge of taking care of animals.
