Western House Academy -

'where every opportunity shapes a life'

Our Values

WHA values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

At WHA we believe values are stronger than rules. We see values as a child’s moral compass for life; a life skill they can use anywhere. We promote 10 core values: respect, teamwork, ambition, courage, resilience, honesty, curiosity, friendship, positivity and tolerance. Every month under each core value, we explore further values giving the children a deeper understanding.

Each week an assembly is held which explores and celebrates the current value for the month.

All assemblies can be found under the News and Events tab-assemblies.

I am delighted to share some wonderful news with you.

When I took over at WHA, I was really passionate about values and our children having the knowledge of how values can guide them in our school and life beyond WHA.

Five years ago our hard work was recognised and we achieved Values Based Education status.

We have not stood still and on Friday 25th June, we went through an intense day of interviews where all stakeholders: children, staff, parents and governors were interviewed by an assessor who asked some challenging, thought provoking and probing questions to see how values are embedded in everything we do .  I am pleased to report that at the end of the day we were awarded the Enhanced Quality Mark for Values Based Education.  A real achievement.

Fondest regards

Mrs Snowden

Principal

VbE Podcasts

Values Based Education asked Western House Academy's BoomBoxRadio to make three Podcasts to show at their conference. The aim of these Podcasts is to help to inspire other schools on how we use the values on a day to day basis at WHA.

There are three parts to the podcasts; the first is an overview on the values at Western House, the second is an interview with some children at Western House and the third is an interview with the staff. The BBR Team worked very hard to plan and record these shows and it is a privilege to have been asked to share these podcasts with other schools at the conference.

Environmental Posters

To demonstrate the value of "Responsibility",  Mrs Snowden set a challenge..... The children were asked to create a design for an enviromental poster that would educate everyone on how to take more responsibility for protecting the environment.

We had some fantastic and very informative entries.

The winning designs can now be found in different locations around the school - enjoy!

Well done to everyone who entered.
